screaming at the void
A CURATED STORYTELLING NIGHT
BY: Jasmine Pettet
What happens when queer voices gather in the dark? They laugh, scream, confess, and create something unforgettable. Screaming at the Void is a one-night-only showcase of comedians and storytellers turning fear into punchlines, pain into performance, and silence into community.
Curated by Stage Fright and Telltale, this evening brings together Portland’s boldest queer performers to share their twisted tales tales.

Welcome to Telltale!
We are a monthly curated storytelling night for folks that want to get vulnerable and take no shit.
We are community focused, always looking to hear a story from someone else’s life, and excited to make new connections. It’s not a show JUST for misfits…but you know, it kind of helps? How often do you go out to events and feel lonely? Because this show is built just for you.
The show started in 2017 around election time because we were feeling so angry and didn’t know where to put it. Now we’ve been going for nine years—wild huh?—and you know… The world still sort of feels like it’s on fire all the time. And it always feel strange to promote a show during a time like this—picture us vaguely gesturing towards everything around us—but in the long run, sitting in a room with people, in real life, having conversations, sharing stories, and creating connection? That’s where revolutions start, right?
We hold firm to our values, act from our ethics even when it’s inconvenient, sit through difficult conversations when necessary, and try to be curious before we assume. Yes, Telltale is a show, but it’s also sort of the way we look at the world—this isn’t the world we want to live in yet, but how can we drag it a little bit closer every day, inch by inch? What are you doing to make this world better?
But the show—yes. It’s a lovely shifting cast of about 8-10 performers lovingly curated by the hosts who all come and tell a story loosely based on that month’s theme, using whatever medium they want—so you might see essays, poetry, dance, comedy, improv, stories… who knows.
